Originally from New Zealand, freelance oboist Rachel Curkpatrick is currently based in Melbourne where she regularly performs with Australia’s top orchestras and ensembles. As an orchestral musician Rachel has performed with key orchestras in Australia and New Zealand including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician Rachel has performed with Southern Cross Soloists and also with international artists including Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Pascal Rogé, the Brodsky Quartet and Australian actor Eddie Perfect.
Over the last few years Rachel’s music education experience includes involvement in both the Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Education programs, and also in Orchestra Victoria’s mOVe workshops throughout regional Victoria. Rachel also has experience of community music-making and improvisation in various contexts, including a short time spent in East Timor which has been a highlight of her music-making to date.
